Traveling through Colorado’s I-70 mountain corridor is a journey full of beautiful roads, mountainscapes, and, depending on what time of year, SNOW!!!
During winter, thousands of friends and families chase the snow and head to the Colorado mountains. One important step that some forget is how they’re getting there.
Year over year, winter travelers who plan on rideshare (Uber/Lyft) find themselves stranded. In the winter months you will find availability is not always there. For the most part, if you can secure a rideshare from Denver International or Eagle Regional, wait times start at 30–45 minutes plus, with a vehicle not equipped with three-peak mountain-rated tires, nowhere to put your gear, or a driver that won’t accept the trip on site.
This happened to me years back, which is part of how VIP Ground came into action. It was fall, and I was returning to Vail from Chicago, flying into Denver International. I went to the far lane, requested a rideshare, got in the car, and the driver said, “No, I’m not going.” It was later in the evening, there were no more buses going up and no more Pegasus runs to Avon Station. Luckily I had family in Denver, which is where I ended up staying that night and took the Pegasus up in the morning.
Rideshare companies have changed how they communicate with their drivers. Drivers cannot see where their next trip is taking them until they are on site for pickup, and most do not want to take that long trip up the mountain. In a winter storm that trip is all of 3 hours, and drivers are likely to drive back down empty (without a passenger), which makes the drive time not worth the trip.
That night is why every VIP Ground ride is confirmed before you land.
No waiting in the far lane, no driver deciding at the curb. Your Chauffeur and vehicle are reserved ahead of time and are ready for you when you land.
